I was learning about the difference between a dedicated IP and a shared IP address. Apparently dedicated IP addresses are safer and rank better in search engines. The current web host I’m with doesnt offer a dedicated IP address so I was thinking of switching over to one that does. What web host would you recommend? Will I have to pay extra for a dedicated IP?

I have a dedicated IP address with InMotion Hosting. I’m really happy with their overall hosting plan.

Yes, you will most likely need to pay extra for a dedicated IP address. It depends on the web host, but usually a dedicated IP is not that expensive. Last time I checked HostGator offers a dedicated IP for about $24 a year and InMotion offers one at $20 a year. Bluehost offers a similar price. These are all decent hosts.

I think most web hosts will offer a dedicated IP, but you have to pay extra for that. The theory that a dedicated IP actually boosts your seo ranking is not proven. I was wondering the same thing if it did. Its been about 5 months now since I gave my website a fixed IP. I did notice a significant increase in traffic, but I do not know if that was from the IP or other things I was doing to it. I would recommend http://www.inmotionhosting.com because they are just really good and offer really high performance hosting plans.

Wow that is a better price than I got. I’m with GreenGeeks and they charge $30 a year for a dedicated IP. I should consider switching…

Whatever you do, dont use HostGator. It took forever to contact customer support to ask to get a dedicated IP addresss. Then they just tell me to follow this link to order it. I had the business plan so the IP address was free, but for some reason, I couldnt get the free IP address without getting an SSL certificate. I’ve never had to do that with other web hosts. This is confusing and difficult.
